Dharamshala: Religion and Culture Kalon Tsering Phuntsok offered tenshug to the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Rinpoche yesterday on the occasion of his 22nd birthday.
The celebration of Gyalwa Karmapa Rinpoche’s birthday here at the Gyutoe Tantric Monastery was purposely a modest affair – given the significance of this year for His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
After offering tenshug to His Holiness the Dalai Lama last March, the Department of Religion and Culture decided to make similar offerings to all the prominent spiritual leaders at the time and place of their convenience.
The initiative is symbolic of the fulfillment of the whole retinue of propitious circumstances attached with the presentation of tenshug to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The Religion and Culture Department has already presented tenshug to 8 of total 14 spiritual leaders from all four main traditions of Tibetan Buddhism and the traditional Bon religion.
When asked about the remaining six, Relgion and Culture Secretary Tsering Dhondup said that the spiritual leaders are yet to finalize a date for the presentation.
