Prevent AIDS Benefit Concert Held, Workshop on AIDS Begins
Dharamsala, 16 March: A concert featuring various Tibetan artistes for creating awareness on AIDS was held last evening at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts. The concert, organised by Loten Namling, a Switzerland based Tibetan musician, was aimed to generate more awareness of the dangers of AIDS problem in the exile community as well as in Tibet.
The chief guest Mrs. B.Tsering, President Tibetan Women Association, appreciated the fact that a Tibetan man has for the first time contributed to the empowerment of Tibetan women. She introduced the ongoing and future projects on community development of the Tibetan women’s association. She pledged that the fund raised from the concert will be used efficiently.
The concert was started with a prayer by the Gyuto monks for the Aids victims all over the world. The artistes who took part in the concert were Chukie Thethong, Dhumkang Tsering Phuntsok, Ugen Choedon, Jamyang, Lhamo Dolma,palmo, Yangchen, Lhamo Dolma, Kharag Penpa, Tsewang Choedhen and Loten Namling.
The hall was packed with an audience comprising of both Tibetans and foreigners.
Mr. Lobsang Tsering, a local AIDS activist from Kunphen, a Dharamsala based organisation for AIDS awareness and drug rehabilitation, briefly spoke on the issue of HIV/AIDS. The organisation also distributed literatures on HIVS/AIDS and condoms for free.
Meanwhile, a two-day workshop on AIDS began today at the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute. The workshop is jointly organised by Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, and the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute.
