Press Release:
FEBRUARY 20, 2012, DHARAMSALA, INDIA — The Central Tibetan Administration is deeply aggrieved and concerned over the news of self-immolation of Nangdrol, who according to information was only 18 years old.
While in flames, Nangdrol was last heard praying, “May His Holiness the Dalai Lama live thousands of years and Freedom for Tibet”. He was from Choeje village, Barma township in Dzamthang. He is the fourth of eight siblings.
It is reported that the public managed to take the body to Dzamthang Gonchen, monastery of the locality and performed the traditional Buddhist death rituals despite strong restriction by the armed forces. Due to pressure from the armed forces, Nangdrol’s body was cremated at 01am local time. Even in the odd winter-night, over 1,000 Tibetans were present at the cremation.
The Central Tibetan Administration once again urge the Chinese leadership to positively respond to prevent these spontaneous acts of individual Tibetans by putting in place measures that address the genuine grievances of the Tibetan people.
