Dharamshala: President of Central Tibetan Administration Dr. Lobsang Sangay today inaugurated the newly constructed girl’s hostel and renovated boy’s hostel, funded by German Aid for Tibetans and the CTA, at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), Dharamshala.

President Sangay was accompanied by Chorig Kalon Ven Karma Gelek Yuthok, TCV President Thupten Dorjee, director of TIPA Wangdu Tsering and representative of the German aid for Tibetans, Harey. Director Wangdu Tsering gave a guided tour of the rooms and kitchen of the newly built girl’s hostel and the renovated boy’s hostel.

After the guided tour, President Sangay addressed the students and staff members of the institute.

“Yes, it is definitely necessary to have proper accommodations. Having a good place to stay will set the environment and help you perform well in the future,” President Sangay began.

“The hard work of a dozen artists who had come from Tibet under the guidance and advice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama has created this internationally recognised institute 58 years ago,” he added.

“The year 2019 will mark 60 years since the formation of TIPA. Many people all over the world will be coming to perform on the occasion, but I hope that TIPA artists will leave a mark of remembrance on all the viewers who will be attending the occasion. We will do our best and help you with your needs, like wise you must do your best and make the year 2019 a memorable one through your performances as TIPA artists”, he concluded.

Representative of German Aid for Tibetans, Harey stated that the artists of TIPA do an amazing work and that such work bears prime significance to the Tibetan Community in the form of preserving the Tibetan Culture. He said that he was grateful that he could play a small part in helping preserve the Tibetan culture and identity.

The construction of the new girl’s hostel began on 7 February and was completed on 17 October, 2017.
