
Aurangabad: Tibetan president Dr. Lobsang Sangay arrived in Aurangabad, Maharashtra this Friday to take part in the grand inauguration ceremony of 50 feet statue of Tathagat Buddha at the invitation of Lokuttara Mahavihara Bhikku Training Centre.
Earlier today President Dr Sangay made a brief visit to the Ajanta Caves, the first UNESCO world heritage monument of India. He was accompanied by Shri Kailash Chandra Bauddha, Hindi translator to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The Ajanta Caves are 30 (approx) rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments which date from the 2nd century BCE to about 480 CE in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra state of India. According to UNESCO, these are masterpieces of Buddhist religious art that influenced the Indian art that followed.
