Planning Commission formally launched

Dharamsala, 11 July 2003 “Henceforth, the Planning Council will be referred to as the Planning Commission and the office of Planning Council as the office of Planning Commission……. “, the Health and Finance Kalon Lobsang Nyandak read out the official statement during the formal launching of the Planning Commission by the Kashag. The inaugural function was held at Gangchen Kyishong yesterday and was attended by the honourable Kalons and staff of the Central Tibetan Administration.
Speaking at the gathering, the Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche emphasised the importance of formulating a farsighted and comprehensive plan to achieve His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s future vision for Tibet. He said that the planning commission has a very important role to play. He also reminded the officials of the Central Administration of their responsibility to achieve the goals and aspirations of the Tibetan people.
The Kalon Tripa cautioned the newly formed commission to learn from the past mistakes of the other countries and make every effort to avoid reaching a regrettable situation in future.
Illustrating the importance of working for the well-being of the common people, the Kalon Tripa shared with the audience an interesting episode from the life of the great Acharya Vinoba Bhave, one of the foremost disciples of Mahatma Gandhi.
During the function, while Mr. Lobsang Acharya from Security Department described in detail the latest five-year plan of the Chinese government for the ‘Tibet Autonomous Region’, the Chief Planning officer of the newly formed Planning Commission, Dr. Kunchok Tsundue explained the third integrated plan of the Central Tibetan Administration.
