Peace Marchers Leave Dharamsala, Await Central Government’s Nod
Dharamsala, 11 February: In the latest development which turned out to be a triumph for the peace marchers and their supporters, the local police allowed the peace marchers to resume their walk to Delhi. The good news came shortly after discussions took place between the local police, the march organisers, Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, ATPD members, and State Transport Minister Shri G.S Bali.
But the peace march still has not got the ‘go ahead’ from the central government, which the police said had issued instructions to stop the march.
Talking to TibetNet over phone, Ms. Dolma Choephel, the General Secretary of the Tibetan Youth Congress, said that they have been allowed to move forward from Dharamsala but that the talks with the central government to seek permission is still in the process.
Earlier this morning Shrimati Chandresh Kumari, the State government’s Health Minister, gave an address to the public gathered at the flagging off ceremony of the march before its disruption by police. She said she fully supports Tibet’s cause and that she is disappointed over the center’s refusal to allow the march.
The marchers will reach their first halt, Mataur near Kangra later tonight.
