Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet in the Himachal Vidhan Sabha

Dharamshala: Two member delegations of the Assembly comprising of Vice-Chair Mrs. Dolma Gyari, and member of the Standing Committee of the Assembly, Mrs. Nawang Lhamo, are visiting Shimla from 21 to 22 August to finalize the registration and the inception of the Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet in the Himachal Vidhan Sabha.
Besides preserving, promoting and strengthening the centuries old cultural, historical and religious ties between India and Tibet, it also supports the welfare of the Tibetans and the cause of Tibet.
Formation of the Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet in the Himachal Vidhan Sabha was initially proposed by the former chairman of the Assembly Mr. Pema Jungney with the honorable chief minister of the state Shri. Virbhadra Singh during his visit to Dharamshala on 28 December 2005.
In late 2002, a Parliamentary delegation of the Vice-Chairperson Gyari Dolma, Mr. Dawa Tsering (MP)and Venerable. Thupten Phelgey (MP) called on the then Chief Minister Prof. Dhumal and the then leader of the opposition, the present Chief Minister, Shri Raja Virbhadra Singh. Whereby, both the leaders expressed support for the formation of a Tibet group in the Himachal Vidhan Sabha.
In July 2006 Mr. Karma Choephel, chairman of the Assembly, visited Shimla and discussed the matter with Shri. Virbhadra Singh.
Later at Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch Conference held at Chamba on 11 July 2006, the vice-chair, accompanied by the members of the Standing Committee Geshe Thupten Phelgey and Mrs. Nawang Lhamo held discussions on it with the opposition leader and the former chief minister of state, Shri. Prem Kumar Dumal.
On the Indian Independence day celebration on 15 August, the vice-chair spoke about it to Shri. Gangu Ram Misafir, honorable Speaker of the Himachal Vidhan Sabha.
This visit is the finalisation of all above visits to start the Parliamentary Support Group for Tibet in the Himachal Vidhan Sabha.
