DHARAMSHALA: A Tibetan Parliamentary delegation led by Deputy Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel held a lobby campaign at the Estonian Parliament on 29 May 2014. The delegation is accompanied by Mr. Ansders Haq, President of the Estonian Tibet Support Group, Mr. Sven Grunberg and Mrs. Tami Paves from the Estonian Institute of Buddhism, along with Elena and Jolie from the International Campaign for Tibet.
The delegation spoke about the critical situation prevailing inside Tibet and the reasons that led over 130 Tibetans to self-immolate in protest. They also talked about the devolution of political authority by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to an elected leadership and the need to resume dialogue between the Chinese government and Tibetan representatives to resolve the Tibet issue.
The delegation also met Kristina Ojuland, a former member of the European parliament. They apprised her of the tragic situation prevailing inside Tibet. They thanked her for her unwavering support towards Tibet. She assured the delegation that she will continue to work for Tibet and urged the delegation to continue creating more awareness about the Tibet issue in Europe.
Following their meeting with Ms. Kristina Ojuland, the delegation met Mr. Tunne Kelam, who was recently re-elected as a member of the European Parliament. Mr. Tunne assured his continued support to Tibet and expressed his solidarity with the Tibetan people inside Tibet. He said that Tibetans becoming a minority in their own land is a concern for everyone and he will consider it his moral duty to raise the issue of Tibet in the European Parliament.
A parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Penpa Tsering also visited Europe last year to create awareness about the critical situation inside Tibet and garner international support to resolve the issue of Tibet.
