DHARAMSHALA: The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile today urged the Chinese government to seriously review during the forthcoming National Party Congress its failed policies which are pushing Tibetans to burn themselves to death.
“Despite repeated appeals from the Tibetan leadership to the Tibetans in Tibet to value their precious lives, the Chinese government blatantly accuse His Holiness the Dalai Lama of instigating separatism through self immolations. However, we clearly recognise the fact that all these drastic actions were driven by the wrong policies of the Chinese government in the last 60 years and particularly since 2008,” Speaker Penpa Tsering told reporters during a press conference here.
He said the self-immolations by Tibetans is a clear expression of their deep resentment against China’s policy of assimilation and annihilation of Tibetan culture, religion and language.
“But the Chinese government has responded to the peaceful expression of Tibetan aspirations with repression, imprisonment and torture,” he added.
“[We] urge the 18th Congress to seriously deliberate on the continuing spate of self- immolations in Tibet, conduct a thorough investigation into the underlying causes and develop corrective policies and measures that meets the aspirations of the Tibetan people,” Speaker Penpa Tsering said.
The Tibetan Parliament urged the Chinese government to allow Tibetans to freely protect and practise their culture, language and religion, and immediately stop its wrong policies and baseless allegations His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
It also urged the Chinese leadership to release all Tibetan political prisoners to foster positive policy transformation in Tibet.
It called on China’s new leadership to revive the channels of meaningful contacts with the Central Tibetan Administration to resolve the long-standing problem of Tibet.
It expressed its strong belief sincerity on the part of Beijing to find a lasting solution to the issue of Tibet would ensure stability in China and peaceful co-existence between Tibetan and Chinese peoples.
