DHARAMSHALA: The Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile has offered condolences and prayers to people affected by the devastating flash floods in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand.
“On behalf of all the Tibetan people, the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile wish to express our condolence to all the victims of the recent flash flood that has taken so many lives and our solidarity to all those who had to undergo immense sufferings,” Speaker Penpa Tsering wrote to Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on 26 June.
“His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Cabinet, Tibetan Non Governmental Organizations in and around Dehradun and monastic institutions, have contributed monetary and material support to the relief efforts,” he said.
“We are highly appreciative of your efforts to bring live back to normalcy despite the devastation. We pray for all the victims,” he added.
Nearly 800 Indians, mostly pilgrims, were killed after torrential rain and subsequent flood and landslides struck the famous pilgrimage areas in Uttarakhand last week.
