Taiwan: The Tibetan community and friends of Tibet in Taipei commemorated the 10th March Tibetan Uprising Day yesterday in Taipei.
Around 600 Tibet supporters including representatives of civil society groups turned up in large numbers. The protest gathering was presided over by Representative Kelsang Gyaltsen Bawa, Freddy Lim, Chair of the Taiwanese Parliamentary Group for Tibet, vice chair Sun Han Hung, Taiwanese politicians Miao Poya, and Lin Liangjun.
The officials spoke in great length highlighting the gross human rights situation inside Tibet and the significance of the Tibetan Uprising Day.
The gathering proceeded for a peaceful rally around the city launching slogans calling for freedom inside Tibet.
The campaign commemorating the 10th March event began on 8 February organised by the Tibetan Human Rights Group. Every Wednesday, the group would organise bicycle rallies between Taipei and Kasoshing city.
On 3 March, Representative Kelsang Gyaltsen Bawa, Freddy Lim, MP Wang Wanyu, MP Liu Shyn-Fang, and President of Tibetan Association Tashi Tsering launched a press briefing about the commemoration of the 10th March event which was widely covered in Taipei’s news media. On the same day, Representative Bawa and Tashi Tsering participated in a talk program where they spoke about the prevailing dire situation in Tibet and the political stand and endeavours of the CTA among other subjects.
