Washington DC: Office of Tibet (OoT) and International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) hosted a luncheon for India’s former Foreign Secretary and Ambassador Nirupama Rao today at the Office of Tibet. Representative Namgyal Choedup, ICT Interim President Bhuchung K. Tsering, ICT Interim Vice President Tencho Gyatso, ICT former board member Ellen Bork and the Office of Tibet Staff were present.
Representative thanked Ambassador Rao for accepting the invitation and spoke about the current situation inside Tibet. He explained that His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s middle way approach is the only way of finding a mutually beneficial and long lasting solution to the Tibet-China conflict.
Ambassador Rao thanked OoT and ICT for the lunch and she recalled her memories of meeting His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Lucknow at the train station in 1960. She was only nine years old and received an autograph from His Holiness, which she fondly cherishes. Ambassador kindly signed copies of her recently published book: The Fractured Himalaya: India Tibet China 1949-62 for the Representative and the staffers.
