Washington DC: Mr. Raymond Yee, a father figure for new Tibetan immigrants in British Columbia, sadly passed away this week. Mr. Yee, along with his wife, Janet Lau, was a dedicated member of the Canada Tibet Committee for years after they were deeply moved by the Tibet cause after having met Tibetans while travelling through Tibet, India, and Nepal.
“I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of dear Mr. Raymond Yee,” stated Representative Tsering, “He was a man who lived his life through his conviction in justice and freedom. As a Chinese-Canadian, he proved to marginalized Tibetans that Tibetan-Chinese friendships are possible. We offer our condolences to his wife and family members.” Mr. Yee participated in a virtual commemoration of the Tibetan National Uprising Day on 10th March of 2021, just a few days before his passing away.
The Tibetan Resettlement Project for displaced Tibetans from Arunachal Pradesh in British Columbia was one of Mr. Yee’s most impactful contributions to the Tibetan Community. Without his unwavering support, this project could likely not have come to fruition. He helped newly arrived Tibetans every step of the way, from finding them jobs to driving them to their job interviews. Truly, Mr. Yee’s passing will be profoundly grieved by Tibetans and others by British Columbia in particular. Mr. Yee will always be remembered for his advocacy and kindness.
