DHARAMSHALA: The fateful super cyclone Phailin struck the coastal area of Gajapati district of Odisha on 12th October, 2013. On its way, the Tibetan settlement located in Odisha, was also adversely affected causing damage to the standing corn crop. Regional Indian agricultural office estimated that around 90 to 95 % of the crop was damaged as a result of the cyclone.
The Department of Home (DoH), responsibly appealed to our foreign supporters, Offices of Tibet, Tibetan communities abroad ,Tibetan Cooperatives and Tibetan settlements in India, Nepal and Bhutan for helping hand for the revival of the agricultural production by bringing the affected farmers life into normalcy.
As per our appeal, we received a sum of INR 245,11,783.95 as donations from the Tibetan people from all walks of life, sharing grief & solidarity with the affected Tibetan farmers.
Out of the total donation received, INR 229, 83,608.95 was received from abroad and INR 1,528,175 was received from the Tibetan settlements located in India.
The Department of Home (DoH) would like to immensely thank and express gratitude to all those generous donors who helped us in our hour of tragedy.
Mr. Sonam Topgyal Khorlatsang, Executive Secretary, Department of Home accompanied by Additional Secretary Mr. Chhimey Rigzen visited Odisha Phuntsokling Tibetan Settlement on 16th April to oversee the ground level situation and to ensure the effective working mechanism for the transparent delivery of the relief package approved by the Kashag. The farmers expressed overwhelming joy to know the support they received from kind donors.
