Washington DC: After taking charge as the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in North America on 28 November, Representative Ngodup Tsering is making rounds of Washington D.C. and meeting with all the relevant people including Tibet supporters, congressmen and women, and high level officials.
Representative Ngodup Tsering met Congressman Jim McGovern and Nita Lowey, ranking member on the House Committee on Appropriations who is highly influential in providing funds related to Tibet. Congressman Jim McGovern is a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the co-chair of the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission.
Representative Ngodup Tsering also met staff of Senate Appropriations committee and senior staff of USAID, and PRM.
During the meetings, Representative Ngodup Tsering’s first priority was creating political awareness about the Middle Way Approach and seeking US support for dialogue between envoys of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Chinese representatives.
With the budget appropriation deadline looming in December, his other priority was to ensure continued funding for Tibet in the US budget. All the senators and representatives that Representative Ngodup Tsering met has assured continuity of funds for the Tibetan community, and expressed strong support for the resolution of the Tibet issue based on the Middle Way Approach.
