
DHARAMSHALA: Two newly-appointed local Justice Commissioners took the oath of office today from the Chief Justice Commissioner Ngawang Phelgyal Gyechen at a ceremony held at the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission.
Ms. Namgyal Tsekyi was sworn-in as the local Justice Commissioner for northern region which includes the states of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh.
Mr Lhaduk was sworn-in as the local Justice Commissioner for eastern region which includes the states of West Bengal, Sikkim, Chattisgarh, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Nagaland.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Chief Justice Commissioner Ngawang Phelgyal Gyechen said, as per the vision of the Supreme Justice Commission, this is the first time that candidates with legal education backgrounds have been appointed to the post of justice commissioners. He expressed hope that more Tibetans with legal educations would come to serve the Tibetan community.
Ms Namgyal Tsekyi first joined the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission on contract basis in 2002. Since then, she has served the Tibetan community in various capacities in different Tibetan settlements. She has a double LLM degree from India and the United States.
Mr Lhaduk finished his law education from Mysore in Karnataka. He was also a participant of the 2nd Tibetan lawyers training organised by the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission. He joined the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission as section officer in July this year on contract basis.
