Dharamshala: In pursuit of his keen desire “to highlight the tragedy of Tibet”, an English teacher (PGT) at the Mussoorie-based Central School for Tibetans, Gurbux Singh, has authored “An Ode to His Holiness the Dalai Lama”.
This is not a book of poetries, Mr Singh clarifies. “It is the story of the life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the verse form.”
In the book’s prologue, His Holiness the Dalai Lama lauds Mr Singh for having “retold charmingly in verse the story of my life both in Tibet and in exile in India and my efforts to relieve my people’s sufferings and to preserve the values and identity of our rich and ancient culture.”
His Holiness further says that “I wouldn’t like readers to think that this is only Gurbux Singh’s expression of support for the Tibet. His broad understanding of the Tibetan story is a reflection of his long friendship and many years of work as a teacher.”
“In offering education to successive generations of Tibetan children he has made a priceless contribution to the future of our people, for which I am happy to have this opportunity to thank him,” His Holiness said.
In a letter to the Tibetan Bulletin, Mr Singh writes that in the pages of this book every Tibetan will find his story of life written in black and white.
