Namgyal Tsekyi to be Appointed as New Local Justice Commissioner at Bylakuppe [Friday, 12 November 2010, 4:49 p.m.]

Ms Namgyal Tsekyi would be appointed as the new Local Justice
Commissioner at Bylakuppe Tibetan Settlement in the south Indian state
of Karnataka, the Office of Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission said in
an announcement issued 12 November. Ms Tsekyi will take over from Local Justice Commissioner Mr Tsona Lhakpa with effective from 19 November 2010. Ms
Tsekyi completed her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from JSS Law College Mysore
in 2000, following which she obtained a degree in Master of Laws (LLM)
from Mysore University in 2002. While working in the office of Tibetan
Supreme Justice Commission in Dharamsala from August 2002 to July 2006,
she practiced law for six months under the tutelage of Mr Mukhesar,
lawyer for the Central Tibetan Administration, in Delhi. The
experiences gained during the practice earned her a certificate of
lawyer from the Delhi Bar Council. In August 2006, Ms Tsekyi
went to US under the two-year study programme of Central Tibetan
Administration’s Education Department and obtained her second LLM
degree in study of international human rights law from American
University in Washington. She has been serving at the Office of Tibetan
Supreme Justice Commission since returning to India in October 2008.
