
DHARAMSHALA: The Chinese authorities have arrested a Tibetan woman named Kalsang, for circulating photos of His Holiness the Dalai Lama through Wechat, a social network app for mobile phones. She was also charged with storing songs banned by the Chinese government in her phone. She was arrested in front of a guest house in Nagchu on 11 October.
After her arrest, Kalsang’s family and relatives went to the police station to demand her release. But the Chinese authorities denied having knowledge about Kalsang’s whereabouts and told them that until her sentence is pronounced by a court, her whereabouts will never be ascertained.
Kalsang is a native of Driru county in Nagchu prefecture in the Tibet Autonomous Region. She is a mother of three daughters, the eldest of whom is 11 years old and the youngest is just 4 years old.
