Minister of Art & Culture to Inaugurate Durban Tibet Festival
Dharamshala, 12 July 2005(office of tibet, pretoria): KZN Minister of Art and Culture, Mr. Narend Singh will inaugurate Tibet Festival of Compassion at Durban Jewish Club on July 17.
The Office of Tibet, Pretoria, in collaboration with Tibet Society of South Africa is organizing Tibet Festival of Compassion in celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 70th Birthday at Durban Jewish Club, Old Fort Road, Durban on Sunday 17 July 2005.
The festival will be the biggest event on Tibetan cultural heritage ever held in South Africa. The festival will feature the creation of Sand Mandala by Tibetan Buddhist monks, traditional Tibetan music & dance performances by artistes from the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts and a demonstration of Tibetan art of thanka painting by a professional painter.
The festival will also feature exhibitions on Tibetan Medicine, thangka paintings and a photo journey to Tibet. Movies like Compassion in Exile, Story of the 14th Dalai Lama, Yogis of Tibet and Compassionate Healing will also be screened during the festival.
Teachings and talks on Tibetan Buddhism and Culture will also be organised during the festival.
