On an opening day on 2 July, the Director of Tibet House Brasil Jigme Tsering welcomed the four-member Men-Tsee-Khang team with Khatags, followed by a lecture on the ´Mind and Body Correlation, and Diagnosis in Tibetan Medical System´ by sMenpa Lhundup Dorjee. The astrologer Tenzin Lhamo brought the discussion full circle with her lecture on the ´Relationship between Tibetan Medicine and Astrology´. The twelve days events—which included lectures, discussions and consultations—were attended by not only Brazilian laymen but also health practitioners and professionals from the area of well-being as well as members of several Buddhist organisations in Brazil. Some other lecture topics that piqued the interest of the audience are ´Tibetan Medicine and Healthy Digestive System´ by sMenpa Lhundup Dorjee and ´ Elements, Health and Zodiac Signs in Tibetan Astrology´ by Tenzin Lhamo. The lectures were interpreted by Valentin Conde. The closing lecture ´A Tibetan Doctor’s Advice on Healthy Diet and Lifestyle´ on 13 July, translated by Advocate Ana Paula Viera, who also facilitated the consultations, left the Brazilians requesting for the return of the Men-Tsee-Khang team to São Paulo.
While in São Paulo, the Men-Tsee-Khang team was invited by Hospital Sírio-Libanês (Syrian-Lebanese Hospital), one of the most reputed hospitals in Brasil and South America since 1921, to share the knowledge of Tibetan medicine and astrology with their staff and students. The team also gave an intensive 5-day program from 14-18 July at Tsarpa Sakya Monastery in Cabreúva, a municipality in the State of São Paulo. The Tsarpa Sakya Monastery is founded by Lama Rinchen, a Brasilian Tibetan Buddhist monk. The team then headed to Rio de Janeiro for discussions, lectures and consultations at Centro Shiwalha, a branch of FPMT, in collaboration with Tibet House from 20 to 28 July. The team was throughout accompanied and introduced by Jigme Tsering, the representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Latin America.
The presence of the medical team also proved serendipitous on the occasion of His Holiness the Fourteenth Dalai Lama´s eighty-seventh birthday, which was celebrated at Tibet House with traditional dance, music, and food.
