
WASHINGTON DC: On March 2, 2017, the US State Department celebrated Losar, the Tibetan New Year with all the pomp and show. It was attended by seventy plus dignitaries including the State Department officials, Representative Penpa Tsering, ICT staff, executive members of Tibetan Association and others.
Ms. Laura Stone, the Director of the Economic Policy Office in the Bureau of East Asian and Economic Affairs, U.S. Department of State greeted and welcomed all the guests and expressed that Losar celebration at the state department exhibits US respect and recognition for Tibetan rich culture and religion.
Mr. Losang Gyatso, head of Tibetan service, VOA gave a detailed account of how Losar is celebrated by the Tibetans. The president of Capitol Area Tibetan Association Mr. Namkha Tenzin greeted the guests and thanked the state department for its Losar Celebration.
This is the third time that the state department has celebrated Losar. The reception included Tibetan traditional songs and dances, offering of Chang and refreshments.
