Lodig Tibetan Society in Nepal elects its Settlement Officer

Dharamshala: The three Tibetan communities under Lodig Society, Nepal, including Paljorling, Jampaling and Tashighang Tibetan settlements have elected their settlement officer.
The Election Commission of Central Tibetan Administration conducted the elections, after the three communities unanimously opted to elect their own settlement officer under the provisions enshrined in clause 3, under the article 73 of the Charter of Tibetans-in-Exile.
The two candidates – Norbu Dorjee and Tsering Tsiten were shortlisted in the preliminary round of voting conducted on 15 September under the supervision of regional election commission of the area.
Of the total 437 votes cast in final round of election held on 22 September, Tsering Tsiten got 237 with 54.33 per cent of the total votes cast.
Mr Tsering Tsiten the newly elected settlement officer will take charge of the office on 15 October.
Four other Tibetan settlements which had successfully elected their settlement officer includes the Dege Tibetan Society, Bir on 11 April 2003, the Tibetan Bonpo Foundation, Dolanji on 8 July 2002,Tashi Pelkhel, Pokhara in 17 October 2006, and the Boudha community, Nepal on 14 February 2004.
