DHARAMSHALA: Lobsang Thupten, a 17-year-old Tibetan teenager from Lithang, Kardze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture (incorporated into China’s Sichuan province) was arrested for staging a peaceful protest against the Chinese government’s policies in Tibet.
Lobsang Thupten carried out the protest on 18 August, in front of the local police station in Lithang County. He was holding a portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and a banner with references to the Chinese oppression in Tibet, according to a report published by a Tibetan rights group based in exile.
Thupten shouted slogans calling for freedom of Tibetan people and His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s return to Tibet.
A group of armed policemen arrived shortly after his protest and took him away in a police car. His current whereabouts and condition remain unknown.
Lobsang Thupten hailed from 1st village of Yonri Ponkor in Lithang County and his father’s name is Jephak Mei Mei and mother’s name is Tenlo.
