New York: The China Democracy Party, Beijing Spring, Federation for a democratic China, United for Democratic China and other organizations jointly organized a candlelight vigil on 2 June, 2019 in the Greater New York area to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the June 4th Tiananmen Massacre where also the Chinese liaison officer Tsultrim Gyatso of the Office of Tibet attended the event and delivered a speech.
The liaison officer thanked the organizers for the invitation and rending him an opportunity to speak on the occasion. Mr. Gyatso greeted the old and new friends including many Chinese youths.
He recalled and remarked the June 4th incident as one of the saddest historical events.
“No matter how much power and exertions is used to cover up this matter, It is impossible to make people forget about the truth since many witnessed its occurrence” claimed Mr. Gyatso.
He further drew attention on the predicament of the year 1988 and 1989 for Tibet as Tibet too was dealing with sensitive and urgent time as the Beijing government just stated that they were willing to open dialogue with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and His Holiness was also asked to choose the meeting venue and time. That was when His Holiness the Dalai Lama laid down the five-point peace plan and Strasbourg memorandum. These two documents are the basis of the middle way approach.
“Although the situation was so tense for Tibet as well when the June 4th incident occurred in 1989, His Holiness promptly criticized the Chinese government’s suppression of students and showed his support to the students’ peaceful democracy movement”. said, Mr. Tsultrim Gyatso
Chinese liaison officer Mr. Gyatso then introduced the democracy system that exiled Tibetan society is implementing under the leadership of the Central Tibetan Administration. He noted that just as many Chinese are observing the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of June 4th, Tibetans also marked the commemoration of the 60th year in exile after the 1959 mass resistance against the Chinese occupation. Mr. Gyatso thus urged the young Chinese to immortalize their activities to protect truth and freedom as he noted that 1.2 billion Chinese have the right to know the fact about the incident of June 4th, 1989.
