Letter to the EditorTo, The Editor The Tribune ChandigarhRe: Correction in report on Tibet by Pratibha ChauhanDated: 30 August 2010Respected sir, This is in reference to the report in your esteemed paper dated 22 August 2010 titled “Lhasa – The Chinese Makeover” by Pratibha Chauhan. The report on the whole is fair, objective and remarkably balanced. But,
the author gave a false account about the genesis of the Potala Palace
in the section titled “A peep into history”. In fact, the construction
of the Potala Palace in Tibet’s capital Lhasa was started by Tibet’s
Thirty-third King, Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century. The palace was
later expanded in 1645 by the Fifth Dalai Lama. Since then, the palace
has been the official residence of the successive Dalai Lamas, the
spiritual and temporal rulers of Tibet. With due regards.Yours sincerely,Lobsang ChoedakPress OfficerDepartment of Information & International RelationsCentral Tibetan AdministrationDharamsala, Distt KangraHP, IndiaTel: 01892 222510, 224957Fax: 01892 224957Email: [email protected]
