Dharamshala: Lelung Association, an association based in Switzerland initiated by two Tibetan brothers Sonam and Pema Tsawa in 1994 aimed at providing education to hundreds of children in Tibet has donated CHF 147000 equivalent to INR 1,04,89,930 [One crore four lac eighty-nine thousand nine hundred thirty only] for the scholarship fund of the Department of Education of the Central Tibetan Administration.
The scholarship program will be named as Lelung Scholarship and will be used to provide scholarship for Tibetan students from Tibet in the years to come.
“DoE would like to express our gratitude and deeply acknowledge the good deeds of Tsawa brothers in helping us in uplifting our community in the field of education. Such kind initiative is highly appreciated and hope our other fellows Tibetans will follow suit,” said the Department of Education. “At present, under DoE scholarship we have more than 1000 Tibetan students studying in various Indian and Tibetan Institutes in India.”
The Lelung Association have been providing education scholarships to many hundreds of Tibetan children. From 1994 until 2019, with the help of many donors and association members, over $650,000 has been invested in this project and hundreds of young Tibetans benefited from it. During the last 25 Years, 147 of them were able to obtain a higher education. All this was initiated by the brothers Sonam and Pema Tsawa with their trip to Tibet in 1993.
