
Leh, Ladakh: On 21 January 2026, as part of the “Year of Compassion” programme commemorating the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the Sonamling Ladakh Ghoton Organising Committee, with the support of the local community, conducted an animal feed drive in the Leh region.
Food was distributed at four locations: Phodang Ghaphelling (goats and sheep), Chamba Animal Care Centre (stray dogs), Live to Rescue Centre (providing shelter and medical care for animals), and Urgain Rinpoche Monastery (birds and rabbits).
The primary aim of the drive was to promote His Holiness’ message of compassion and love, and to highlight that caring for animals represents true act of compassion.
The programme was participated by members of the Ghoton Organising Committee, the Chief Representative Officer and staff from Chief Representative Office of Ladakh, the Executive Secretary of the Tibetan Primary Health Centre, the Secretary of the Ladakh Tibetan Cooperative Office, the President of the Tibetan Regional Religious Association, Leh, as well as Group Leaders and representatives from RTYC Leh.
