Ravangla, Sikkim: A three-day Grand Guru Bumtsok and International Free Medical Camp was successfully organised at Tathagata Tsal (Buddha Park) from 6 to 8 March 2026, under the spiritual guidance of Gyasho Kyaptrul Rinpoche. The event was jointly organised by Kunphenling Tibetan Settlement in collaboration with the Buddha Park management, with the noble aim of promoting compassion, community wellbeing, and access to healthcare in celebration of the Year of Compassion.
The programme began with a special enthronement ceremony of the portrait of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, which was ceremonially installed by Gyasho Kyaptrul Rinpoche, along with the Area MLA of Barfung Constituency, Rigsal Dorjee Bhutia, the Officer on Special Duty of Buddha Park, the Kunphenling Tibetan Settlement Officer Kalsang Tseten, the Additional Political Secretary to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ravangla, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Ravangla, and several other distinguished dignitaries from in and around Ravangla.
This solemn enthronement ceremony at Tathagata Tsal was particularly significant, as it marked the first time such a ceremony had been conducted by Kunphenling Tibetan Settlement at Buddha Park since its inauguration in 2013, making it a historic and meaningful occasion for the Tibetan community and the local public alike.
The opening ceremony was graced by Barfung Constituency MLA Shri Rigsal Dorjee Bhutia as the Chief Guest. The event was also attended by several distinguished dignitaries including the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ravangla, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Ravangla, the Chairman of the Power Department, the Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission, the Additional Political Secretary to the Hon’ble Chief Minister from Namchi District, and the Officer on Special Duty of Buddha Park, among many other respected guests.
One of the major highlights of the event was the International Free Medical Camp, where doctors and health specialists from seven different countries—including Vietnam, Thailand, Russia, Nepal, Singapore, USA and Malaysia came together to offer medical consultation and treatment free of charge. They were joined by Dr Tenzin Palzom from Sallugara, as well as doctors and healthcare professionals from the Ravangla Primary Health Centre, who actively participated in providing medical services to the public.
More than 250 guests and residents from Ravangla and nearby areas attended the opening ceremony, reflecting the strong support and enthusiasm from the local community.
On behalf of the organising committee, Kunphenling Tibetan Settlement Officer Kalsang Tseten extended heartfelt gratitude to Gyasho Kyaptrul Rinpoche, the Chief Guest, all distinguished dignitaries, and especially the visiting doctors and medical specialists who travelled from different parts of the world to take part in this compassionate initiative.
Tseten also explained that the decision to organise the event at Tathagata Tsal (Buddha Park) rather than within the Tibetan settlement was made to ensure that the benefits of the medical camp could reach a wider section of society. “His Holiness the Dalai Lama has always reminded us that we are one big human family. Therefore, such noble initiatives should not remain limited to one community but should serve humanity as a whole,” he said.
The closing ceremony, also attended by Area MLA Shri Rigsal Dorjee Bhutia, marked the successful conclusion of the three-day program. During the ceremony, the organising committee felicitated Gyasho Kyaptrul Rinpoche and all the visiting international and local doctors with letters of appreciation and traditional khatas in recognition of their invaluable contribution to the medical camp.
Prior to the closing ceremony, Gyasho Kyaptrul Rinpoche also bestowed Tsewang Tsedup (long-life empowerment) for devotees and members of the public who had gathered for the occasion. Rinpoche also extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Tibetan Settlement Officer and the members of the organising committee for their dedication and support in successfully organising the event.
The event received widespread appreciation from participants and local residents, many of whom expressed their hope that such international medical camps and spiritual gatherings would be organised more frequently in the future for the greater benefit of the public.
The successful conclusion of the three-day programme reflected a meaningful blend of spiritual devotion, compassion, and humanitarian service, embodying the universal values of care, unity, and service to humanity on the auspicious occasion of the 90th Birth Anniversary of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama.
