KOYASAN, Japan: A group of about 100 South Koreans today received an audience from His Holiness the Dalai Lama as they came to Japan to attend his talks and teachings.
In his brief address during the audience on the sidelines of a teaching at Koyasan university, His Holiness said Tibetans and Koreans are followers of same faith (Buddhism) and underlined that studying the Buddha’s teachings and commentaries by masters of ancient India’s Nalanda tradition is of utmost importance.
He reiterated that Buddhist followers across the world must strive to become 21st century Buddhists by blending their thorough knowledge of modern education and Buddhist ideology. He underlined that collaboration between Buddhist science and modern science has a great potential to create a peaceful and happier world.
On being asked by His Holiness the Dalai Lama if they have any questions for him, the group expressed hope for his visit to Korea. In his response, His Holiness said Koreans have been seeking his visit for the last many years. “My visit is contingent on the Korean government’s political and economic interests and considerations.”
His Holiness said out of many Buddhist countries Japan is the only nation where he doesn’t face any problem to visit.
“Despite being a Buddhist, I could not travel to a Buddhist country,” His Holiness the Dalai Lama told his Korean followers before posing for a group photo.
