Kasur Jetsun Pema is One of Three Finalists for World’s Children’s Prize

Dharamshala (TibetNet): Kasur Jetsun Pema, President of the Tibetan Children’s’ Village (TCV) based in Dharamsala, is one of three finalists for the annual World’s Children’s Prize for the Right of the Child (WCPRC).
Kasur Jetsun Pema addressed, as ‘Amala’ by all the Tibetan children is known for her parental love, care and dedication to improving education for over 15,000 Tibetan refugee children.
The other finalists were the Rwanda-based Orphan’s Organisation, aiding children orphaned during the country’s civil war in 1994, and Canadian Craig Kielurger, founder and head of Free the Children, an organisation facilitating school building and education for children worldwide.
WCPRC was founded by a Swedish organisation in 1999 to recognise the outstanding contributions of those who defend the rights of the child. The award carries a cash prize of 100,000 US dollars and it is decided by a jury of international children who have been exposed to child labour, slavery, war and poverty.
Winners will be announced in Stockholm on 18 April 2006.
