BANGALORE: Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay today met the chief minister of Karnataka, Jagadish Shettar, who said the state government would provide continuous support for Tibetans living in the five settlements in the state.

During his meeting with the chief minister at his office, Kalon Tripa expressed his deep gratitude to the government and people of Karnataka for providing unwavering support to Tibetans for the last more than 50 years.

Kalon Tripa thanked the state government for the financial support which it had earlier given for infrastructural developments such as roads in the Tibetan settlements in Bylakuppe, Mundgod and Kollegal. He appealed to the chief minister for provide funding to improve roads in Tibetan settlement at Hunsur.

Kalon Tripa requested the state government to issue uniform Revenue Transfer Certificates to all the five Tibetan settlements in Karnataka.

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said he would look into the proposals and provide best possible support for Tibetans living in the state.

Kalon Tripa honoured the chief minister by presenting him with a scroll painting of medicine Buddha.

Earlier in the morning Kalon visited St Joseph’s college and delivered a talk on democracy in exile to over 500 students. The visit was organised by North East and Tibetan Forum of the college.

Kalon Tripa today successfully concluded his 6-day visit to Tibetan settlements in southern India and left Bangalore for Delhi this evening.  He will reach Dharamsala on 5 August.
