Dharamshala: The Kalon for Religion and Culture will on Friday, 4 May, offer tenshug to Kyabje Penor Rinpoche, a head of the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, based currently at the Namdroling Monastery in Bylakuppe.
Kyabje Penor Rinpoche is one of the 12 most prominent spiritual leaders from the four main traditions of Tibetan Buddhism and the traditional Bon religion that the Department of Religion and Culture has decided to present long-life offerings this year.
The initiative is symbolic of fulfillment of the whole retinue of propitious circumstances attached with the presentation of tenshug to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on 14 March, according to Religion and Culture Secretary Tsering Dhondup Namey-lahkhang.
Last April, Kalon Tsering Phuntsok offered tenshugs to Menri Trinzin Lungtok Tenpai Nyima, Minling Trichen Rinpoche, Kyabje Trulshi Rinpoche, and Sakya Gongma Rinpoche.
Currently on a month-long visit to the four major Tibetan settlements in South India–Bylakuppe, Mundgod and Kollegal–Kalon Tsering Phuntsok will offer tenshug to Kyabje Drepung Tripa Rinpoche on Tuesday, 8 May.
After the conclusion of this tour, Kalon Tsering Phuntsok will then present tenshugs to the spiritual leaders based in Himachal Pradeshi, including Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche, Gyalwa Karmapa Rinpoche and Khenpo Kunga Wangchuk.
The remaining spiritual leaders include Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche, Luding Khenpo Trichen and Kyabje Gaden Tripa Rinpoche.
The secretary of the Department of Religion and Culture also said that in case of the spiritual leaders based in countries other than India and Nepal, tenshug would be presented through the respective offices of Tibet.
