Kalon Tripa to address humans rights workshop

Dharamshala: Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche will tomorrow give a brief overview of the present status of the Sino-Tibetan dialogue process and the Middle-Way Approach at a workshop organised by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy.
He will later open the floor for a question-and- answer session.
The 8-day workshop on human rights and democracy, beginning this afternoon, is being held at the Gangkyi Hall here.
There are over 55 participants belonging to the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Regional Tibetan Women’s Association and other non-governmental organisations from India, Nepal and Bhutan.

In the afternoon, Karma Choephel, chairman of the Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies, will speak on the evolution of the Tibetan democratic system and the responsibilities and prerogatives of the assembly.
The next day the participants will hear from Kasur Lobsang Nyandak Zayul on the policies and functioning of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and Penpa Tsering, executive director of the Tibetan Parliamentary and Policy Research Centre, on concepts and types of autonomy and Tibetan perspectives.
On 1 October, Sonam N. Dagpo, International Relations Secretary, Department of Information and International Relations, will give an outline on the present status of the issue of Tibet at an international level.
The workshop participants will be introduced to the seven departments of the CTA. They will also visit the Tibet Museum and the Tibetan Reception Centre for new arrivals from Tibet.
