DHARAMSHALA: Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay yesterday launched a book with a collection of essays by Chinese intellectuals on the issue of Tibet. It was compiled and published by the Department of Information & International Relations (DIIR) of the Central Tibetan Administration.
DIIR Kalon Dicki Chhoyang said: “We have compiled articles which appeared, in the last few years, in Chinese language websites, magazines and newspapers, in our latest book titled “His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Devolution of Political Authority: Its Impact and Historical Significance.” Our objective behind publishing this book is to make the essays more readily accessible to Chinese readers who are concerned and interested in learning more about the issue of Tibet” .
The 279-page book contains 54 articles under 6 sections: (1) The Aftermath of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Devolution of Political Authority (2) Burning Tibet (3) Between Autonomy and Independence (4) Real Situation in Old Tibet (6) Tibet is historically not a part of China (7) Why the Dalai Lama cannot visit his own home?
Following the wide-spread peaceful protest across Tibet in 2008, Tibetans have experienced unimaginable suffering as a result of the Chinese government’s brutal crackdown. Contrary to the current situation in Tibet, the Chinese government uses mass propaganda to mislead Chinese people into believing that Tibetans are happy. However, a considerable number of Chinese intellectuals who wish to uphold the truth have written hundreds of articles in support of the current struggle inside Tibet.
Moreover, a number of Chinese intellectuals comprising of writers, scholars, and journalists, have also written invaluable articles on the unprecedented political transition which occurred both in and outside Tibet during the past year. This includes the election of a new Kalon Tripa, the devolution of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s political authority to the democratically-elected Tibetan leadership, and the unending self-immolations by Tibetans.
