Dharamshala:
At the invitation of Dari Ramlila Committee, Kalon Tripa Prof Samdhong
Rinpoche attended the folk re-enactment of the life of Hindu god Lord
Ram being staged at Dari ground near Dharamsala last evening.
A tradition that originates from the Indian subcontinent, the play is
staged annually often over ten or more successive nights, during the
auspicious period of ‘Sharad Navratras’, which marks the commencement
of the Autumn festive period, starting with the Dussehra festival. The
performances are timed to culminate on the festival of Vijayadashami
day, that commemorates the victory of Lord Ram over demon king Ravana.
Kalon Tripa was accorded warm welcome by representatives of Dari
village and the local people upon his arrival at the venue.
Addressing the gathering, Kalon Tripa said: “Folk re-enactment of epics
like Ramayana and Mahabharata is a very important part of India’s
cultural heritage, and the Indian people must learn and know these
traditions.”

Kalon
Tripa underlined the significance of regular attending and listening to
these epics. “Whenever one listens to these epic plays, one will learn
something new,” he said. Kalon Tripa extended gratitude to
Dari village representatives for allowing the Tibetans to use the
playground for the two-day Thank You Himachal Festival held in
April-May this year. He also thanked the government and people of Himachal Pradesh for their kind support to the Tibetan people. The village Pradhan (representative) presented a souvenir to Kalon Tripa as a gesture of gratitude.
