Schwerin, Germany: On the morning of 27 June 2025, Kalon (Minister) Norzin Dolma accompanied by Under Secretary Migmar Bhuti and fellow members of the South Asian delegation, commenced their visit to Schwerin with WeiBe Flotte boat tour on Lake Schwerin followed by engaging with State Parliament officials and cultural heritage sites to advance democratic dialogue and international cooperation.
Kalon (Minister) Norzin Dolma held crucial meetings at the Mecklenburg Western Pomerania State Parliament with Rene Domke, Head of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) Group in the Parliament. The discussions focused on democratic governance, regional autonomy, and citizen participation in federal systems, providing valuable insights into how democratic institutions function at regional levels within Germany’s federal structure.
During these meetings, Kalon (Minister) Norzin Dolma shared the principled commitment of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to democratic values, non-violence and the Sino-Tibet conflict while explaining the working structure and democratic governance framework of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) to the German dignitaries.
The program included a significant cultural component with a visit to Wismar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Baltic Sea. Kalon Norzin Dolma met with Mayor Thomas Beyer, a member of the Social Democratic Party who has served as Burgermeister since July 2010. Wismar’s successful preservation of its medieval Hanseatic League architecture while maintaining modern economic development offered important lessons in cultural heritage protection.
The tour represents continued efforts to build relationships with German political institutions, learn from successful models of cultural preservation, strengthen international advocacy networks and understand federal democratic systems and regional autonomy. The engagement with Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania officials is particularly significant given the region’s experience with political transition and democratic development since German reunification.
The tour was organised by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, South Asia and reinforced shared commitments to democratic principles, human rights, and cultural preservation. German officials expressed appreciation for the dialogue and indicated openness to future cooperation on issues of mutual interest. These international engagements continue the Central Tibetan Administration’s strategy of building support through sustained diplomatic outreach and cultural exchange with democratic institutions worldwide.
