
Geneva: Kalon (Minister) Gyari Dolma of the Department of Security, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) held an official meeting with Andrea De Priamo, Senator cum President of the Inter-Parliament support group of Tibet; Matteo Angelo, Secretary of Senators Giulio Terzi di Sant’ Agata; Gianni Vernetti, former Senator cum former Deputy Foreign Minister of Italy in Rome’s Senate building on 16 January 2025.
The Kalon was accompanied by former Italian MP Gianni Vernetti during the meeting, along with Phuntsok Topgyal, UN Advocacy Officer from Tibet Bureau Geneva and Nyima Dhondup, the Vice President Italy Tibetan Community.
During the meeting, Kalon Gyari Dolma delivered a comprehensive briefing on several critical issues concerning Tibet, including the current situation in Tibet, the impact of the recent earthquake, environmental challenges posed by PRC’s excessive dam projects, the issue of the reincarnation of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, and preparations for His Holiness’ 90th birthday celebrations. The Kalon also expressed her deep gratitude to Senator Ilenia Malavasi and the Italian Senate for their consistent support of the Tibetan cause.
Senator Anderà Priamo reaffirmed his commitment to addressing Tibetan issues and informed the Tibetan delegation that a resolution addressing key concerns related to Tibet has already been drafted. The resolution aims to amplify the Tibetan voice in both the Italian Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
Later that afternoon, Kalon Dolma Gyari met with Senator Ilenia Malavasi at the Senate building. During their discussion of the above-mentioned issues, she again expressed gratitude for Senator Malavasi’s steadfast support in person.
In response, Senator Ilenia Malavasi expressed her deep concern over the situation in Tibet and assured Kalon Dolma Gyari of her continued commitment to the Tibetan cause. The Senator indicated that she would advocate for a resolution focused on PRC’s education policies in Tibet and bring this issue to the attention of both the Italian Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.
