Dharamshala: The closing ceremony of the second cultural immersion course was held on 31 July 2024, and an officiating Sikyong Dolma Gyari graced the occasion as the chief guest. Amongst attendees were Lobsang Jinpa, Secretary of the Gaden Phodrang, and Dhondul Dorjee, Secretary of the Department of Religion and Culture, as special guests. The course was held from 1-31 July, and thirty students from the USA, Switzerland and Germany attended.
After the director of Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts’ (TIPA) initial address about the program’s success with initiatives taken by participants’ parents and the performing arts instructors, a series of musical and dance performances showcased by the students received massive appreciation from the audience.
The honourable Kalon Gyari Dolma addressed the gathering, showing a firm opposition to China’s rampant sinicisation policies regarding Tibetan culture. She spoke on following the words of His Holiness the Dalai Lama by Tibetans in exile to preserve Tibetan culture, and carrying that legacy forward has been TIPA’s core mission, which His Holiness established a few months after coming to India in 1959.
The Kalon appreciated TIPA for receiving such an opportunity to pass on that legacy to the younger generation, and the Kalon was equally appreciative of parents who took the initiative and enrolled their children in the program.
