
Gangtok: Kalon (Minister) Dolma Gyari from the Department of Security, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), attended the Gangtok Tibetan community’s commemoration of the 34th anniversary of the conferment of the Nobel Peace Prize on His Holiness the Dalai Lama on the evening of 12 December 2023 at Chol-ka Sum Hall.
The Security Kalon, who was in Gangtok to escort His Holiness the Dalai Lama during the teaching, underscored Tibetans to constantly recall His Holiness’s benevolent contributions for establishing this robust exile Tibetan community and implored everyone to uphold unity in the face of new challenges in her address. Kalon Dolma Gyari also extended gratitude to the Government and people of India on behalf of the CTA and Tibetan people for rendering unwavering support for the Tibetan freedom movement and the welfare of Tibetans. She expressed her gratitude particularly to the Sikkim government under the chairmanship of Honourable CM Prem Singh Tamang for arranging top-tier hospitality for His Holiness’s visit.
The chief guests Shri Arun K. Upreti and Shri Karma Loday also addressed the event.
During the ceremony, statements from Kashag and the Tibetan Parliament in Exile for the anniversary of the Nobel Peace Prize conferment were read by Tibetan Settlement Office Lhakpa Tsering and Parliamentarian Youdon Aukartsang, respectively.

Upreti, the Speaker of Sikkim Legislative Assembly; Shri Karma Loday, the Forest Minister of Sikkim govt; Venerable Logoan Rinpoche, the Abbot of Gangtok-based Sera Jey Drophenling Monastery; Tibetan Parliamentarian Youdon Aukartsang; Gangtok Tibetan Settlement Officer Lhakpa Tsering; Chairman and the members of the Local Tibetan Association; Heads of Tibetan NGOs; and members of the Tibetan community also attended the celebration organised by Gangtok U-tsang Association.
