
DHARAMSHALA: Mr Benjamin Ismail, head of Asia-Pacific desk of Reporters without Borders, accompanied by Mr Martial Tourneur, visited the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile on Tuesday, 16 August 2016.
Ven Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, Deputy Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament, welcomed the two journalists at the Tibetan Parliamentary secretariat.
During their meeting, the journalist duo explained their organisation’s objectives and activities to the Deputy Speaker. They also elucidated the role played by the organisation to highlight the issue of Tibet in the international media during the 2008 Tibetan uprising, which led to many of the organisation’s reporters being banned from China.
They further enquired about the flow of information between Tibetans inside and outside Tibet.
The Deputy Speaker apprised the two journalists about the current political and human rights situation in Tibet and the non-violent Tibetan movement led by the Central Tibetan Administration to resolve the Tibet issue.
He also explained the democratic structure of the Central Tibetan Administration and the functions of its various departments and offices.
Reporters without Borders is one of the world’s largest non-governmental organistaion that advocates freedom of speech and information though media. Mr Yeshe Choesang, chief editor of Tibet Post International, coordinated the two reporters’ visit to Dharamshala.
