DELHI: On the occasion of with His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s recent
visit to Jodhpur, the Tibet Museum of the Department of Information and
International Relations (DIIR) organised a photo exhibition on the life
of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Tibetans’ journey into exile from
7-10 February 2011. The first three days of the exhibition was
held at Rajmata Krishna Kumari Girls School from 7-9 February 2011.
Mrs. Neera Singh, the school principal, inaugurated the exhibition.
More than 1,200 students and teachers visited the exhibition on Tibet
which was held in the city for the first time.”The students
were taught for one month about the life of His Holiness the Dalai
Lama, so most of the students are well informed about the life and
achievements of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. However, through this
exhibition, the Tibet Museum succeeded in informing the students more
about the Tibetan culture, their life in exile and also about the
issues concerning Tibet and its people,” Mrs Singh told officials of
the Tibet Museum.On 10 February, the exhibition was held at
Hari Taj Mahal, coinciding with His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to
address the Tibetan community in Jodhpur. Around 500 Tibetans, who earn
their livelihood through selling sweaters in Jodhpur, Udaipur, Mount
Abu, Bikaner visited the exhibition. The exhibition also drew visitors
from the local Indian community. “The exhibition was well received by
the Tibetans in all age group, including the young Tibetans, who were
able to understand how elder Tibetan worked hard to sustain the
community in exile. During the exhibition at both venues, official
publication materials, including books and brochure, were also
distributed. The exhibitions at Jodhpur city was made possible after
the request by Tibetan Sweater Seller Association of Jodhpur,” Tashi
Phuntsok, an official of the Tibet Museum told TibetNet.From 15
to 17 February, the Tibet Museum exhibited “Journey into Exile” and
“Long Look Homeward” during a two-day festival of Tibet in Delhi. The
exhibition was held at Art Faculty of Delhi University. On 17
February, large number of students and staff from various colleges in
Delhi University visited the exhibition and also enjoyed Tibetan food
and Tibetan traditional dresses exhibited by Tibetan college students.
“More than 2,000 students visited the exhibition and managed to
informed and educate them about issues related to Tibet and its people.
Tibet festival programme also include talks by Vijay Kranti, panel
discussions and screenings of documentary films on Tibet,” Tashi
Phuntsok said.
