Dharamshala: As per the circular issued by the Kashag dated 25 January 2024, Jigme Jungney, a former member of the 15th Tibetan Parliament and Secretary of the CTA was appointed Representative of the New Delhi-based Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
As per Article 19 (1) of the Public Service Commission’s rules and regulations, the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the Offices of Tibet must be appointed by the Kashag in the attendance of Sikyong and the Kalons.
Brief bio of Jigme Jungney:
Jigme Jungney, born in 1949, came into exile in Ladakh in 1962 and underwent education in Mussoorie and Pachmarhi. Following his settlement in Delar in Bylakuppe, he took on diverse roles, including village head, as a leader of the Local Tibetan Freedom Movement, chair and vice-chair of RTYC, day school teacher, office secretary at the Geluk monastery, and Tibetan Cooperative Society.
In 1983, he entered the civil service within the Tibetan administration, initially as a secretary at the Tibetan Cooperative Society in Kollegal. Progressing through the ranks, he held positions like Hunsur Settlement Officer and Chief Representative Officer in Bangalore. Over a span of 14 years starting from 1995, he served in secretarial capacities at the Department of Home and as Secretary at the Office of the Auditor General. In total, he dedicated more than 37 years to societal service, accumulating extensive experience.
On September 16, 2011, he officially assumed the role of a member of the 15th Tibetan Parliament, solidifying his commitment to the political representation of the Tibetan people.
