Dharamshala: The official reception for the opening of International Tibet Support Network’s South Asian Regional Coordination Office was held Tuesday, 10 April at the Gu-chu-sum conference hall.
Mr. Sonam Norbu Dagpo, secretary of the Department of Information & International Relations, was the chief guest of the event hosted by the co-chair of ITSN, Jamyang Dorjee, and Tsering Choedup, Regional Coordinator South Asia.
Present at the ceremony were over 20 representatives from various NGOs and media people.
Addressing the occasion, Sonam Norbu Dagpo appreciated the works of Tibet Support Groups (TSGs), which he likened to being the “fourth refuge” of the Tibetans–the first three being the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha.
Mr. Dagpo also underlined that the Administration has an “inclusive” policy that pays equal status and recognition to all the TSGs that work for the Tibetan cause.
In his address, Jamyang Dorjee briefed the guests on the work of ITSN, including coordinated campaign works of its member organisations, particularly the three Campaign Working Groups–Olympics, Human Rights and Economic Rights.
Mr. Dorjee also said that all Tibetans are welcome to participate in these working groups.
The ITSN is a network of Tibet-related NGOs from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australasia and Europe.
It works “to maximise the effectiveness of the international Tibet support movement”.
The Network works through an elected Steering Committee to co-ordinate strategic campaigns and action plans based on close consultation with its members.
