Dharamshala: The Institute of Buddhist Dialectics (IBD) and College for Higher Tibetan Studies (CHTS), Sarah, held a convocation ceremony on 30 April 2024.
Kasur (former Kalon Tripa) Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche graced the event as the chief guest, alongside Geshe Samten Gyatso, the President of the IBD and CHTS, Additional Secretary Kunga Gyaltsen from the Department of Religion and Culture, and Additional Secretary Sonam Sangpo from the Department of Education. Also in attendance were Passang Tsering, the Principal of CHTS, as well as teachers and parents of the graduating students.
The ceremony commenced with the chief guest lighting the butter lamp, followed by the chant master leading the prayers. The proceedings then advanced with the President of the IBD and CHTS, Geshe Samten Gyatso, delivering an address.
Following the speech, Secretary Lobsang Jinpa from the Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, graciously bestowed white scarves and certificates upon four school captains. Additionally, the additional secretaries of the Department of Religion and Culture, and the Department of Education launched the books unveiled by the graduating students.
The distinguished guest, Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, conferred certificates to students from various batches in recognition of their academic accomplishments.
Thereafter, Rinpoche delivered a keynote address on the importance of Tibetan youths in upholding and safeguarding the unique Tibetan language, religion and culture. In particular, Rinpoche emphasised the need to recognise and address the main obstacles and challenges that hinder the promotion and preservation of our rich heritage.
Towards the conclusion of the event, CHTS Principal Passang Tsering delivered a vote of thanks.
