DHARAMSHALA: The eastern leg of the flame of truth torch relay, which reached Tenzingang Tibetan settlement in Bomdila in Arunachal Pradesh on 20 July, is receiving strong support from the Indian community.
“The flame of truth relay is passing through different corners of Tenzingang Tibetan settlement. The members of the Indian community offered by their support to the campaign by participated gathering in large numbers at the relay,” Settlement Officer Dorjee Rinzin said.
“The local Indians are showing special interest in our campaign as we share common religion and culture,” he added.
Addressing a grand rally at Thubchok Gatsel Monastery on 25 July, he said eastern leg of the flame of truth relay which started from Shillong on 6 July has so far passed through 19 regions.
He said the torch relay could not pass through Tawang due to road blocks caused by heavy rainfall. But the signature campaign in Tawang would be carried out by officials of Tibetan Freedom Movement, he added.
The settlement officer will hand over the torch to his counterpart in Tezu settlement today.
A signature campaign is being underway along with the torch relay. The Tibetan Parliament-in-exile has appealed to the international community and people of the world to support the issue of Tibet through this signature campaign. The result of the campaign will be submitted to UN headquarters in New York, UN Human Rights Council in Geneva and UN Information Centre in New Delhi on 10 December.
The petition demands the United Nations to discuss the issue of Tibet based on the resolutions it has passed in 1959, 1961 and 1965, send an independent international fact-finding delegations to investigate the ongoing crisis in Tibet and to ensure that the basic aspirations of the Tibetans inside Tibet are fulfilled.
