DHARAMSHALA: The National Campaign for Tibetan Supports, an Indian Support Group for Tibet based in Wardha in the southern Indian state of Maharashtra, organised a bike rally to show their solidarity with the Tibetan cause.
Mr Shekhar Shende, Former Municipal Council Chairman, Wardha and Mr Vijay Athale, Former Zilla Parishad council, on 26 October flagged off the ‘Free Tibet, Save India’ bike rally on the occasion of the 56th anniversary of Dr. Baba Sahib Ambedkar’s Dharmachakra day at Dishabhumi in Nagpur. More than 15 lakh followers of Dr B R Ambedkar from across India gathered at Dishabhumi.
More than 50 bikes with around 100 Indian supporters and Tibetans travelled from Norgyeling Tibetan settlement through Wardha to Nagpur.
The bikers were accorded a rousing welcome on reaching Nagpur by members of the Tibetan community, including Norgyeling Tibetan Settlement Officer, Presidents of Local Tibetan Assembly, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress and Tibetan Women’s Association. The Indian supporters and Tibetans also organised a peace march. The Tibetan community collected signatures for the Flame of Truth campaign organised by the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile to seek the UN’s action on its past resolutions on the issue of Tibet. The flame of truth relay travelled through Nagpur few weeks ago.
“It was the fifth annual bike rally organised by National Campaign for Tibetan Supports in collaboration with India Tibet Coordination Office (ITCO) based in New Delhi,” Tenzin Paljor, an ITCO co-ordinator told TibetNet.
ITCO distributed books on the issue of Tibet in Hindi, Marathi and English languages during the event.
