Indian President to Honour Tibetan School Teachers [Saturday, 4 September 2010, 4:09 p.m.]

Two teachers of the Central Tibetan Schools Administration (CTSA) have
been nominated for the year 2009 National Award to Teachers. Indian
President Pratibha Patil will present the awards at a function
scheduled to be held in Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Teachers’ Day on
5 September, the department of education said today in a press release.Mr
Chime Youngdoung, primary teacher of the Mahendragarh Branch of Central
School for Tibetans (CST), Chandragiri, Orissa and Mr. Brij Mohan
Aggarwal, post graduate teacher (Commerce) of CST Mussoorie,
Uttarakhand, will receive this year’s prestigious national award along
with about 374 teachers from across India. The award carries with it a certificate of merit, a cash award of Rs.25,000 and a silver medal. The
National Award to Teachers, instituted in 1958 by the Government of
India, is given every year to give recognition to meritorious teachers
working in primary, middle and secondary schools. Each Indian State,
Union Territory and Organisation has an earmarked quota based on the
number of teachers. The scheme also covers teachers of the schools
affiliated to CBSE, ICSCE, Sainik Schools, KVS, NVS, CTSA and schools
run by the Atomic Energy Education Society. Teachers’ day is
celebrated in India on 5th September in honour of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan,
former president of India, a philosopher and a great teacher.
