Indian Media Delegation Visits Dharamsala

Dharamsala, 17 March: A ten-member Indian media delegation is on a three-day visit to Dharamsala. The media tour is organised by the Delhi based India Tibet Co-ordination Office. The delegation comprised of mediapersons from various national and regional newspapers of India.
The delegation called on His Holiness the Dalai Lama yesterday. It also toured the various Tibetan institutions in and around Dharamsala. The delegation also met Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, the Kalon Tripa of the Central Tibetan Administration.
The tour is expected to make the India masses familiar with the Tibetan community in India and its administration. It is also hoped that the tour will help bring the India masses closer to the Tibetan plight thus generating grassroot support to the Tibet cause.
The delegation had opportunity to have a close look at the Tibet issue through interactions with the various Tibetan NGOs and government officials.
Meanwhile, the Dharamsala chapter of the Bharat Tibbath Sayhog Manch, an Indian organisation supporting Tibet’s cause, held a discussion forum at Hotel Dhauladhar on ‘Media’s role in Tibet issue’. The forum was participated by Mr. Thubten Samphel, the Secretary of the Department of Information and International Relations, members of the media delegation, members of the BTSM, members of Tibetan NGOs and local reporters.
The delegation also visited the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies in session to observe its proceedings.
